A Study On The Design Of Cultural Space In Campus Based On Place Phenomenology

This paper tries toresearch the university campus cultural spacefrom the perspective of the place phenomenology.The policy of increased enrollment in the late1990s,made the most direct and rigid demand of the Chinese local higher education resources.A large number of universities in the citycanonly cope with it through the establishment of a new campus. Compared with the traditional ones, the construction of new campus hasshort built period and larger scale.Most of them are the direct productions of the model"Architecture Design Institute" in China, which character on "short, flat, fast". On the one hand, it could be quickly achieving a variety of economic and political indicators, on the other hand it has left seats of cultural ruins with duplicated characteristics and lost place.The function of phenomenon is reflected to the existence of the early original structure of consciousness,the key target of it lies in strippingthe concept shell wrapped things, making things manifest themselvesin ’their’ ways. Architecturephenomenology is committed to breaking the colored filter between the architect and the people on the ’form’ and "function" and other "isms", and to make the building and the people combine in the most direct way--existential and feeling.Based on the space conception of existential, the article is trying to reverse the abstract conception of space originated from geometry and functionalism into specific holistic coexist space concept, and,to re-sortthe definition of campus cultural space. Then, we extract the two place-phenomenology concepts"place" and "existentialspace" as the basic unit and the organizational structure to parse the campus culture spacein phenomenological way. Includingthree microstructure in the place level:center, density area and boundary and three basic relationship as campus existentialspace overall:closeness (Centre and spaces), continuous relationship (direction and path), closed relationship (field). As translatingCampus cultural space into phenomenological structure,we try to resort this particular space system into six types:the function center, image center, scatteredcenter, direction, background area, and border area.At the basis of theoretical analysis,summarizes the design advantages and disadvantages after the analysis of designstatus, usingstatus, and user evaluation, with the combining of investigations and analysis on the two new university campus finished in recent years:the Xipu Campus of Southwest Jiaotong University and the Qingshuihe Campus of Sichuan University.Finally.proposed the phenomenologcial campus cultural space design-guidelines with the synthesizing of theory researchingand investigate analysis.
