The arrival law of rail transit passengers is about the probability distribution of passengers’ arrival time, which directly affects the maximum number of waiting rooms and platforms in rail transit stations. As an important indicator, the maximum number of passengers is influenced by several other factors, mainly including passengers’ travel distance, travel time, travel mode, the climatic conditions of the city, traffic conditions and the operation time of trains etc. At the same time, the arrival law of rail transit passengers not only affects the reasonable use of waiting rooms and platforms, but also decides how the train operates and how the rail transit stations should be constructed or renovated. Therefore, the research on the arrival law of rail transit passengers is both theoretically and practically important.Firstly, this paper proposed a new research direction based on summarizing and analyzing existing research achievement about mass rail transit, home and abroad.Secondly, by using Access database the paper analyzed the basic data from field investigation and data collection in Chengdu Metro Line1and the Chengdu North Railway Station. The distribution probability of the passenger arrival law in mass rail transit and railways was also determined respectively. Then it also further infers the relevant parameters of different types of passenger arrival regularities. The graphics of arrival law of rail transit passengers was fitted and tested.Thirdly, a comparative analysis on the law of passengers’ arrival in the railways and subways showed the possibility and the requirements of using the platforms for passengers to wait. Finally, by using Anylogic software, the paper simulated the pedestrian traffic flow in Tianfu Square, Chengdu Metro Line1station and analyzed the simulation results and the bottleneck during the peak hours.
