Slope instability has been listed with earthquakes and volcanic eruptions as the world’s three major geological disasters. It could cause many adverse consequences such as the blockage of channels, traffic disruption and the obstruction of engneering construction. And it could also seriously endanger people’s lives and property. For all the reasons above, more and more attention has been paid to the research of slope instability and the control of landslide. Therefore, the stability analysis of slopes has a very important significance.This essay carried out the reaserch with the technology roadmap of literature review modeling-software development-test checking. After an extensive research on the theory of stability analysis of slopes, computer programming language Microsoft Visual C++has been used to develop the software of railway slope stability analysis in the Visual Studio development platform. For slopes which have different types of failure surfaces, this software would use the relating limit equilibrium analysis method to calculate the safety factor. The calculation module for slopes which have plane failure surfaces would analysis the stress working on the slope and list relating equations, ultimately gets a equation Function (F)=0which related to the safety factor F. Then it would use parabolic iteration method to solve this non-linear equation to get the factor of safety. The calculation module for slopes which have cylindrical failure surfaces would use a grid to search the critical failure surface when considering the impact of the earthquake force. The Fellenius method and the simplified Bishop method are used to calculate the minimum safety factor. Test checking has been done and the results have also been analyzed.The analysis result has showed that the calculation of this program matches with other calculation methods which illustrates the calculation program has a certain reliability and practicality.Compared to other small calculation programs, this software has a friendly interface and could calculate the safety factor of slopes which is composed of multi-layer soils. The visualizasion of the most dangerous failure surface and the dynamic display of calculation result have been achieved in this system. This calculation program can make a more accurate evaluation of the slope stability by avoding simplified suggestions on the slope boundary conditions and soil properties. Compared to the commercial softwares, this calculation procedure has features as adapting a variety of mainstream computer operating system, easy to operate, reliable performance, clear results and so on.
