With the implementation of Natural Forest Protect Project in China, the original rude and extensive skidding is gradually replaced by small skidding with flexibility. And the requirement of wheeled skidder is changing from large and medium size to small and medium one, which brings an increased demand of the small wheeled skidder. However, in our country, theoretical research for small wheeled skidder is not strong, and the old-fashioned skidder has no overload protection or wire rope arrangement, which leads to high rate of whole machine failure. Besides, as there is a lack of systematically analysis of small skidding experiment, the requirement of miniaturization, intelligentialize and multifunction for skidding machine can hardly been met by small wheeled skidder in current market. So there is a significant importance for fully research of skidder design from skidding experiment.In aspect of theory design, the related mechanical model of small wheeled skidder was analyzed with the combination of the features of plantation in Northeast skidding operation. The main parameters were got in order to meet the requirement of skidding. Then the traditional parts of the small skidder winch are designed. In order to shorten development cycle and increase the scientificalness of the designed parameter, the Interior Point Penalty Function was adopted, and MATLAB software is used to optimize the parameter selection of the winch parts. And the final size of the winch and parts were calculated by scientific mechanical design. The software like Solidworks and AUTOCAD were used in drawing the detail drawings and assembly drawings. And the Simulation was used to conduct the finite element security check. Finally, Torque Limiter and wire rope were designed in order to make the winch have overload protection and wire rope arrangement functions. With above reasonable theory research, Chinese small wheeled skidder winch design theory will be deepen and reformed. And the design process of small wheeled tractor system, giving more theoretical basis for correlational research in future.In aspect of skidding experiment research, in order to make the analysis of the influencing factors more scientific and the conclusion have more actual value, the skidding data was processed by principal component analysis and regression analysis. Explanation for skidding power change was given scientifically and the ways to increase the skidding power were got. Then the winch wire rope traction’s effect situation was analyzed and the theoretical mode was established, thus, the wire rope impact force’s influence factor, theoretical value and the theoretical mode’s applicable scope were got. Then the experiment curves were analyzed, and the skidding influence factors of wire rope were got, with overload performance results been proved. Finally, the machine’s other indexes were analyzed and checked. The drum wire rope arrangement situation was analyzed for proving the winch had wire rope arrangement functions; the pass obstacle ability of machine and timber in different environments were calculated by passing ability experiment. These above research provide some reference for small wheeled skidder design and research and development. The problems such as lack of operation performance and low safety of small wheel skidder can be solved. Meanwhile, the skidding operation design can be guided to give full play to its ability.In conclusion, this paper uses whole study process to show an innovative, advanced and systemic design procedures about small wheeled skidder winch design in China, which realize the new functions of small wheeled skidder winch and enrich the design theory in China. Thus, the paper has important theoretical value and practical application value.
