Development and utilization of alkali soil is an important way to solve the globalpopulation crisis, the food crisis and the environmental crisis. And it is a significant issue ofvegetable industry that overcomeing the harm of soil salinization in facilities in our country,China. In this paper, tomato “zhongza11” was used in series trials to investigate the feasibilityof using the technique of Facile Style Organic Substrate Culture (FSOSC) to develop and usethe alkali soil. The indexes of physiology and biochemistry were determined, and themovement of salt in root zone was also monitored. The main results are as follows:1. In the saline soil with as much as10‰of NaCl included the seedling survival rateof tomato which was planted in the Open Style FSOSC reached100%. The tomato planted inthe Open Style FSOSC grew well and had a much higher yield. Tomato in the treatment of V(corn stalk): V (chick manure): V (sand)=4:1:3presented the best, and had the highest yieldof1860kg/667m~2. It illustrates that FSOSC has the ability to develop saline soil, and the thirdsubstrate is the best one to be used. But the yield of tomato is on a low level because the saltstress from the soil on the both sides.2. The Na~+content in leaves have no significant differences between the tomatoplanted in the Half Isolated Style and Absolutely Isolated Style FSOSC. But tomato in theHalf Isolated Style treatment grew better, and had a much powerful photosynthesis and higheryield of5301kg/667m~2. Half Isolated Style is one perfect style that can be used in saline soil.3. In the experiment of using Half Isolated Style to culture tomato in soil with fourdifferent salinity level of0‰、5‰、10‰and15‰, the plant growth, photosynthesis andthe Na~+content in leaves had no significant differences among the four treatments. The yieldof the four treatments are separately5671.5kg/667m~2、5329.5kg/667m~2、5301.0kg/667m~2and5244.0kg/667m~2. And there is not statistical difference. It demonstrated thatHalf Isolated Style can protect tomato from salt stress in saline soil with salt content as highas15‰. Isolation measures on the both side which avoid salt stress from saline soil and thewater that leaches the salt in the soil under the substrate are two main facters for Half IsolatedStyle to acquire high yield.
