Ectomycorrhizal (ECM) fungi played an important role in forest ecological system. But we know little of below-ground ECM status. Ostryopsis davidiana was the main native shrub species. The ECM fungal diversity of this species keeped still little known. So ECM fungal community composition and anatomical structure of Ostryopsis davidiana were investigated in Inner Mongolia Area based on the analyses of morphology and ITS sequences. The main results were following:1. From the morphological and anatomical characteristics, types of ectomycorrhizae associated with Ostryopsis davidiana in Inner Mongolia Area were firstly studied. A total of24ECM morphotypes were obtained based on morphological characters. Comprehensive characteristic of24ectomycorrhizal types were described based on general appearance. Such as color, luster, size, ramification type and texture, as well as the presence and color of emanating hyphae and rhizomorphs, surface structure and anatomical characters of mantle in plan view.2. Based on sorting out basal ectomycorrhizal types, ECM fungi of Ostryopsis davidiana in Inner mongolia were identified from the24morphotypes based on the analysis of ITS sequences. The results showed that the total, of24ECM were identified to the level of family, genus and species respectively. In addition, ectomycorrhizal types belonging respectively to family levels were2, genus levels were2and20were identified to species level. Of these fungi,19species belonged to Basidiomycotina including Thelephoraceae (Tomentella), Cortinariaceae (Inocybe, Hebeloma and Cortinarius), Tremellaceae (Sebacine), Clavulinaeae Russulaceae (Lactarius), and Tricholomataceae(Tricholoma). And5were Ascomycotina including Cenococcum (Cenococcum geophilum), Tuberaceae (Tuber), Pyronemataceae (Wilcoxina), Helvellaceae (Helvella) and Trichocomaceae. Taxa in Inocybe, Tomentella and Cenococcum geophilum were frequent.3. And the combination of surveys of detailed morpho-anatomical features and molecular approaches was a powerful tool in ECM fungal community studies.
