Since20th century, exhaustion of fishery resources and Energy Crisis becomes moreand more serious, energy saving of fishing vessel is increasingly outstanding. How torecover and utilize the energy from propeller wake to a maximum extend,has been a focusstudied by the domestic and foreign experts in the field. This test chose the ducted propellerof42m trailer as the study object, the main content are as followed:First,with the standard propeller DTRC4119,the hydrodynamic performance of it wascarried out according to the different turbulent flow by using the commercial CFD softwareFluent, and compared with the experimental date.The model experiment of the ducted propeller was done at laboratory of fishing gearsand hydrodynamic in Zhejiang Ocean University, MRF and the siding mesh that provide byFluent were used to calculating the hydrodynamic performance of it at the same time. Theresult was compared with the test date and the causes of errors were analyzed.Then, the hydrodynamic performance of ducted propeller-rudder system wasnumerically simulated. The existence of rudder effect on the hydrodynamic performance ofthe ducted propeller and the wake flow was analyzed, and the hydrodynamic performanceof propeller-rudder system under different rudder angles was calculated.At last, three different shape of rudder ball for the ducted propeller of42m trailer weredesigned and their energy-saving effect were compared.The variable scales of the principalparameters (the rudder ball diameter, the clearance between rudder ball and propeller) ofrudder ball which has the ideal energy-saving effect were investigated, and the low of effectof each parameter on energy-saving effect was analyzed.At the same time, the energysaving effect of the rudder ball was compared,and the analysis of influence of rudder angleon the effect of energy-saving was competed also.
