With the raising of people’s living standard, and the sharp increasing of demands for meat, eggs and dairy products, Animal husbandry and Breeding industry are jumping at the chance to develop rapidly. On the other hand, the shortage of protein feedstuff has become the constraint on the path of people’s well-off to rich.The research and development of new protein feedstuff is one of point of penetration and breach. Castor bean meal, a by-product of castor oil industry, is an effective raw material of protein feedstuff, for its high content of protein. The heart of the matter is that castor bean meal contains some toxins which can cause animal and people’s health problems, or even death. Therefore, to detoxicate the toxins of castor bean meal is the key to solve the problem. And extrusion is one of the efficient solutions.1) Researching the toxin of castor bean meal and studying the methods of its detoxication in history and mechanism of extrusion solution.2) Reviewing the development of screw extruder, and researching the categorization, applications, and effects on nutritious of screw extruder.3) Designing and optimizing the key parts of the extruder, including design considerations, drive and transmission system, screws and barrels, template and knives with the aid of Solidworks software and ANSYS software.4) Designing the experiments of extrusion, to test the effects of the technological parameters such as lime, temperature, and structure parameters such as size of opening of the template, on the production rate, energy consumption and detoxication.The results show that we can reach a productivity of3ton/hr and a detoxication degree of99.99%on an optimized condition.
