Objective: To investigate the age (AGE), prostate volume (TPV), prostate transition zone volume (TZV), transition zone index (TZI), and serum prostate specific antigen (PSA) as predictors of acute urinary retention(AUR)in men with benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH). Methods: Retrospective analysis the general clinical datum of151patients diagnosed BPH from January2011to October2011in Urology ward in the Union Hospital of Fujian Medical University, and divide the151cases into two groups according on whether they have the symptom of AUR.With the symptom of AUR,the “AUR”group have53cases, without the symptom of AUR,the“non‐AUR”group have98cases.To compare whether the differences between the age, prostate volume, transition zone volume, transition zone index, total PSA, fPSA, f/tPSA are significant, and we analysised the dependablity among the age,the prostate volume and the TPSA.The SPSS18.0software is adopted in statistical treatment. We adopted the T test to treat the datum between the two groups, and adopted the chi‐square test to compare the count data, the linear correlation analysis was used in analysising the relation between the age,the prostate volume and the TPSA. Results:1. In the group of AUR and the group of non‐AUR,the mean age were respectively(74.49±7.64)years and(70.26±7.60)years, the mean TPV were respectively (75.72±43.03) ml and (59.97±37.03) ml,TZV were (43.86±31.29) ml and (32.79±24.80) ml,TZI were respectively (0.54±0.12) and (0.49±0.11), serum PSA, were respectively (8.61±6.64) ng/ml and (5.22±5.25) ng/ml, fPSA were respectively (2.37±3.37) ng/ml (1.32±1.69ng/ml), each index between the two groups the differences were significant (P <0.05).2. The mean f/t PSA were respectively (0.26±0.16) and (0.28±0.13), there wasn’t statistically significant differences between the two groups (P>0.05)3. On the age, prostate volume and serum T‐PSA,there were all statistically significant differences in different age groups, prostate volume groups and serum T‐PSA groups (P<0.05)4. Age and TPV was positively related to the relationship (P<0.05),and serum PSA was highly significant positive correlation relationship (P <0.01), between age and serum PSA was very significant with the positive correlation (P <0.01).Conclusion:1. age, serum PSA, prostate volume (TPV), prostate transition zone volume (TZV) and transition zone index (TZI) are risks and good predictors of BPH with AUR2. The prostate volume is increasing gradually with the age,the PSA is gradually increasing, too;and the rising PSA is mainly due to the increasing prostate volume. There are significant positive correlation relationship between them.
