Duchesnea indica (Andr.) Focke is a perennial herbaceous plant of genus Duchesnea(Rosaceae family), which is widely distributed in most of China with the name Jiguanguo, Longtuzhu, Yeyangmei, et al, there are many records about it in ancient Chinese medical books. This plant has been used to treat scald, diarrhea, cough and fervescence for many years in Chinese traditional medicine, and modern research has shown that it has pharmacological effects of central nerve-inhibiting, antibacterial, dephlogisticate and anticancer. In recent years, many studies focused on this plant as its medical value was be reported, there are many chemical constituents from the whole plant have been reported, including triterpenoids, coumarins, flavonoids and steoids. The present study is undertaken further on the chemical constituents of this plant in order to find more compounds with medical values. The air-dried whole plant of Duchesnea indica was extracted three times with refluxing95%EtOH. The extract was partitioned with petroleum ether, EtOAc and n-BuOH. Eighteen chemical compounds were isolated by means of silica gel column chromatography, preparative thin layer chromatography and recrystallization. The structures of fourteen compounds were elucidated by spectroscopic methods:ESI-MS,1H-NMR,13C-NMR, IR. Fourteen compounds isolated from Duchesnea indica were elucidated as:genistein(1), vanillin(2), caffeic acid(3), rutin(4), gallic acid(5), kaempferol(6), vanillic acid(7), succinic acid(8), p-hydroxy benzoic acid(9), D-mannitol(10),lauric acid(11), diosgenin(12), oleanolic acid(13), ursolic acid(14). Compounds1,2,7,9,10,11and12were first reported from this plant.
