Clinical Observation Of Mepilex, A Kind Of Moist Dressing Applied On Breast Skin Wound Healing

Objective: Breast skin wound healing is a crucial factor to maintain the visualaesthetics of the breast after the surgery. The criteria of cure for breast surgery also covercomplete resection of the ill breast and perfect wound healing for the breast skin. Surgery forvarious types of breast diseases has already destroyed the patients’ faith that the breasts areflawless, however, breast skin wound healing becomes the crucial factor for the visualaesthetics of the breast after the surgery. Breast is the bull’s eye for various female diseases,and many breast diseases will lead to the patients’ lose their breasts and even lives; however,what’s more regretful for the patients is the influence that wound healing has on the visualaesthetics of the breast, such as, breast shape distortion (asymmetry deformity), freshmissing of breast covering skin (incomplete deformity), uneven sizes of both breastsdeformity, etc. caused by ecchymoma, skin necrosis ischemia, infection, surgical incisionexcessive scarring, etc. Therefore, the key for improving the quality of breast skin woundhealing is to improve the quality of the wound healing after surgery, and to reduceunfavorable factors affecting breast skin wound healing. This study adopts new moistdressing to deal with breast skin wound healing, and compare with the clinical observationsbetween new moist dressing method and traditional dressing method about the effect onbreast wound healing after surgery to seek for a more effective method for breast woundhealing after surgery.Method: Collecting from our department160cases of benign breast skin wounds fromSeptember2010to July2011, which consists of40cases of the first type of breast benignsubstantial tumor surgical incisions;40cases of the first type of multiple breast cyst surgicalincisions;40cases of the second type of breast old galactocele with nipple retractiondeformity surgical incisions; and40cases of the third type of acute mastitis with abscesssurgical incisions. The dressings are divided as follows according to different wounds: newmoist dressing--Soft silicone dressing Mepilex group, traditional change dressing(sterilegauze dressing) group, traditional change moist non-stick dressing group, alcohol gauzesterile dressing group, altogether four groups of dressings. Each type of incisions get into theabovementioned dressing groups respectively according to the surgery sequence, and each dressing group has10cases of every type of the abovementioned4types, and altogether40cases. Record all indexes of the four groups of patients with application of dressingtreatment on breast skin wound healing: adopting statistical analysis method SPSS13.0toanalyze the level of pain, frequency of dressing changes, healing time, scab or not, if there’reallergy side effects on local skin, and scarring degree, P<0.05is considered statisticallysignificant.Results:①Compared with traditional change dressing, Mepilex can not only relivethe incision pain, but also can shorten the time to relive pain, the incidence of incisional pain96h after surgery is0.②Frequency of dressing changes is3.95±1.78for Mepilex group,and the healing time is6.46±2.38d, both of which are lower than those of traditional changedressing(P<0.05), and what’s more, the incidence of allergy for incision local skin is0.③The incision scab rate for Mepilex group(17.5%) and scarring degree are both lower thanthose of traditional dressing group(P<0.05).④Prognosis scarring degree for Mepilex groupis lower than those of traditional dressing group(P<0.05), and scar recovery rate（68.6%）ishigher than that of traditional change dressing group（P<0.05）,and Mepilex, may to someextent, can prevent or reduce incision scar formation.Conclusion: The application of moist healing dressing, Mepilex, to deal with breastincision has the advantages of reliving the incisional pain, shortening incision healing time,reducing dressing change frequency, preventing incision to scab, protecting local skin fromallergy side effects, preventing and reducing scar formation. Moist dressing, Mepilex,applied on the treatment of breast surgical skin wound healing, can improve the speed andthe quality of breast incision healing.
