Objectives:1. To investigate the status of theatre nurses’caring ability and make comparison on the caring level and features between theatre nurses who are different in working years, educational background and so on.2.To explore the relevance on caring ability with the mental health and burnout and find the influence factors.3. To explore the theatre nurses’true psychological experience of caring ability and find out the relative factors that affect caring ability.4. To cultivate and strengthen the caring ability of theatre nurses by providing some advices and measures to reduce the occurrence of patients’ adverse psychological reaction and improve nursing service quality as well as promoting the establishment of harmonious relationship between the nurse and patients.Methods:1. Qualitative research approach and quantitative research approach were both adopted in this study. Theatre nurses from three third-grade class-A hospitals participated in this research.2.225theatre nurses were investigated by questionnaires and12individuals were in-depth interviewed. The content of questionnaires include general information, such as gender, age, educational background, nursing length and so on, Caring Ability Inventory (CAI), Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), and Symptom Checklist90questionnaire(SCL-90).3. The literal data of interview was processed and analyzed under the instruction of Phenomenological method in Qualitative research approach. The data was analysized by SAS and the statistical ways are:descriptive statistical analysis, anova analysis, correlational analysis and regressional analysis.Results:1. The score of knowing dimension (72.85±10.23), patience dimension (56.69±7.25), courage dimension (56.58±10.34) are all lower than the norm (P<0.01). The nurses with different initial degree, different working years, and different job satisfaction have a significant difference in knowing and patience (P<0.01). The nurses with different desire to remain staying in the operating room have a significant difference in patience dimensions (P<0.05). And in aspect of sex, marital status, eventually education background, professional title, the care ability score have no significant differences.2. The cognitive dimension in caring was negatively correlated with emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, depression, anxiety and somatization. It was positively correlated with personal accomplishment. Courage dimension in caring was negatively correlated with emotional exhaustion and depers-onalization, depression anxiety, and was positively correlated with personal accomplishment. Patience dimension in caring was negatively correlated with depersonalization, depression, anxiety and somatization, and was positively correlated with personal accomplishment.3.Three topics are involved in the interview, they are richness of the caring, the limitation of care doing and the practical of care training. The richness of the caring includes understanding, careful, respect, responsibility, professional skills; The limitation of care doing includes heavy workload, body tired, irregular work schedules,conflict with the patients,worry about making mistakes, mental stress, repetitive work, numb, lack a sense of accomplishment in the work, heavy psychological burden, personality traits; The practical of care training includes the increase of personal experience, changing of role, model effect and the positive working attitude. Conclusions:1. The scores of the theatre nurses’caring ability were lower than norm abroad, and the level of care ability was not very well.2. Nurses are usually weak in caring if they have worked for6to10years or not satisfied with the nurse work or was the only child in their family. Surely they are the chief targets to be intervened in clinical. Caring ability are closely related with the factors like burnout or mental health. And the factors said above also have an effect on caring ability.3.We can form and increase the nurses’caring ability through ways like controlling their pressure source, increasing their senses of achievement, decreasing their job burnout, training nurses’good psychological quality, distributing and allocating the human resources and workload rationally to ensure the implementation of caring in the operating room and to improve the quality of care services...
