Areca catechu L., one of the plants of the genus Arecaceae, family Palmae, is a Traditional Chinese Medicine named as "Bing Lang". Areca nut is rich in alkaloids, including arecoline(AC). Recently, studies have indicated that AC have cholinergic activity. Areca nut is widely used in deworming and bacteriostasis, and also used as betel quid. There is no report on activity analysis of areca nut in China.Supersonic Wave Extraction of arecoline from betel nut with Response Surface Analysis of arecoline. Discussed by macroporous adsorption resin separation effect of arecoline. The test results show that the nonpolar H103resin has good adsorption and desorption effect of arecoline, suitable for separation and purification of arecoline. Through the experiment to determine the H003resin adsorption conditions:areca crude solution pH4.5,75%ethanol as eluents, arecoline concentration2.6mg/L, desorption rate can reach95.59%.Macroporous resin for separation and purification of arecoline. In the first place, this research use the alkaloid components from the nut shell as evaluation, the content by the Response Surface Methodology to the ultrasonic auxiliary-betel nut alkali optimize organic solvent extract method, received the best process condition, to determine the best extraction solvent for85%ethanol, ultrasonic extraction power is800W,1:12material liquid, alkalize pH8conditions, extracting time for20min,the total extraction rate is0.341%).Study on the Antimicrobial Activity of Areca catechu.Shell Extractions. Agar diffusion method was used to investigate antimicrobial effect of Areca catechu L shell extracts on some common food putrefied microbes, the stability of the antimicrobial activity was also investigated under heat treatment and UV light treatment. The results showed that the minimum inhibition concentration of Areca catechu L shell extractions in the test range was12.5mg/mL for Staphyloccocus aureus,6.25mg/mL for Bacillus subtilis,50mg/mL for Bacillus cereus,50mg/mL for Escherichia coli, but there was no significant antibacterial effect on Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Rhizopus stolonifer and Aspergillus niger. The antibacterial activity substance in shell extracts has good heat stability; UV light stability of the antibacterial activity substance is different to different microbials.
