Objective: To investigate the relationship between gastroesophageal reflux disease(GERD) and infection of helicobacter pylori(H.pylori). Methods:120patients with GERDand120patients with low-grade chronic superficial gastritis diagnosed through endoscopyand24-hour esophageal pH monitoring were checked by14C-UBT. The H.pylori infectionin experimental group and control group was compared.90patients with refluxesophagitis(RE) were devided into LA-AB group and LA-CD group. The infection rate ofH.pylori was compared.120patients with GERD were divided into mild group, moderategroup, severe group and the most severe group by the GERD symptom score. The infectionrate of H.pylori was compared among the groups. Results: The infection rate of H.pylori inGERD(39.17%) was remarkably lower than that in control group (62.50%).Thedifference was marked (P<0.05).The infection rate of H.pylori in LA-AB group(60.87%)was higher than that in LA-CD group(29.55%). The difference was marked (P<0.05).The infection rate of H.pylori in mild group, moderate group, severe group and the mostsevere group was40.00%,41.67%,40.63%and31.82%. The difference was marked (P>0.05). Conclusion: The H.pylori infection was a protective factor in thedevelopment of reflux esophagitis(RE). The H.pylori infection does not seem to play amajor role in producing typial GERD symptoms.
