Objective: To investigate the short-term efficacy and safety of125I seedimplantation in recurrence of rectum cancer guided by ultrasound.Methods:7patients with recurrence of the rectum cancer were treatedwith125I seed implantation guided by ultrasound,2patients had underwenttwice125I seed implantation.4patients were performed under spinal anesthesiaand3patients were under general anesthesia. Each patient was in lithotomyposition. The seeds were implanted under the guidance of ultrasound. Allpatients had CT scan, pelvic and chest X ray in2448hours after the operationfor quality evaluation and given chemotherapy according to the patient’scondition. Followed-up ranged from3to17months. Each patient receivedtumor marker (CEA), abdominal ultrasound, chest X ray, pelvic CT scan anddigital rectal examination per month. Results: All patients’ pain was complete relieved within1month;4cases’symptom disappear within1month and1case improved significantly after thetreatment of5cases with hematochezia.2cases with symptoms of vaginalbleeding disappear within1month. The pelvic CT scan results as a basis forevaluation in1month after treatment, the local control rate was71.4%, partialrelieved was14.3%and no response rate was14.3%, the response rate was85.7%. Of7patients,5still alive,1with metastasis was died withdissemination to lung after5months and1was died with dissemination toother parts of the body.2cases had twice seed implantation, the one still aliveand due to the tumor under control, the other one was died with metastasis.Conclusion:125I seed implantation for recurrent rectum cancer underultrasound guidance will control the local tumor effectively and alleviate the clinical symptoms, and it has advantages of safety, minimally invasion and lowcomplication, it should be combined chemotherapy.
