Nowadays, numerous Chinglish errors with cultural factors, which cannot be understood or accepted by native English speakers, are frequently produced by the Chinese students when they translate the texts with cultural characters into English because of the lack of cultural awareness and their incompetence of translation. In view of this problem, this thesis contrasts the cultures of the two nations from the aspects of living environments, thinking patterns, values, religious beliefs and conventional customs, and describes the reflection of these differences upon language. After analyzing some typical Chinglish problems with mistranslated cultural characters, some possible solutions are put forward. The Chinese students are first expected to enrich their extra-linguistic knowledge; second, they should have a good command of translation theories and learn to apply them into translation practice. Lastly, a qualified translator should have good knowledge of translation strategies and skills. In accordance with these three principles, the author of this thesis comes up with some practical measures. As for how to enrich one’s extra-linguistic knowledge, the author provides two feasible approaches; With abundant examples, the author illustrates how to employ the dynamic equivalence theory to increase one’s cultural awareness so as to resort to the rules of the theory to identify and improve those Chinglish versions; In the end, several strategies to translate the texts with cultural characters are offered, which are expected to be helpful for Chinese students to avoid Chinglish versions with cultural factors.
