Based on the questionnaire and interview, referred to151overseas Chinese students and53non-overseas Chinese students in the College of Chinese Language and Culture of JinanUniversity, the thesis makes quantitative and qualitative analysis on the Chinese vocabularylearning strategies of the overseas Chinese students. The paper discusses the overall use of theChinese vocabulary strategies of the overseas Chinese students, the differences in the use of theChinese vocabulary strategies between different genders, ages, Chinese levels and learningmotivations. And also compares the use of the vocabulary strategies of overseas Chinese studentsto the non-overseas Chinese students. Based on the research, we obtain the characteristics ofChinese vocabulary learning strategies of overseas Chinese students.The results show that:(1) The using frequency of the three strategies is: learningvocabularies through communication> plan, supervise and evaluate the vocabulary learning>using specific methods to learn vocabularies more effectively.(2) There are not significantdifferences between male and female when using the vocabulary learning strategies.(3) Age,Chinese level, Chinese learning motivation influence the use of Chinese vocabulary learningstrategies significantly. With the increase of age and Chinese level, the students use vocabularystrategies less and less. The students with work motivation use strategies more than those withother two motivations.(4) Non-overseas Chinese students use vocabulary strategies more thanoverseas Chinese students. However, overseas Chinese students like to guess the meaning thevocabulary more than non-overseas Chinese students..Finally, based on the results of the study, we give some suggestions on teaching andlearning the Chinese vocabulary. We hope our research can provide some reference for theteaching Chinese as a foreign language.
