Modern times is the last booming period for the development of Chineseclassical poetry, and it is also a period in which “Song Poem School” reached its peak.The number of poems written by Yang Zengluo is not clear because most of his poemswere lost, and most of the existing poems were collected in “Lost Poems written byScholar Yang Yungu”, including790poems. Yang Zengluo was well-known in the“Song Poem School” and he played an important role in modern “Song Poem School”.There are only a few comments on Yang Zengluo’s poems and his literaryachievements in academic circles, and further studies are in need. Based on an overallcollating of the existing poems written by Yang Zengluo and systematic organizing ofthe related materials, this paper tries to give an objective comments on Yang Zenluoand his poems by the method of commenting a person according to his deeds. Thereare five parts in this paper. The first part is introduction, which introduces thebackground and the analyses the present studies. The second part is chapter one andtwo, which investigates Yang’s life experiences and his friends. This will lay groundfor commenting Yang Zengluo according to what he had done during his life time.The third part is chapter three, which sorts out Yang Zengluo’s poetic creation andinfluence. The fourth part is chapter four, which discusses the thoughts and content ofhis poems, and the artistic style or poetic thinking of Yang Zengluo. The fifth part ischapter five which gives a conclusion to the paper. This part mainly analyses YangZengluo’s position in modern “Song Poem School” and his influence on latergenerations.
