A Study Of Code-switching And Some Related Problems Of Citizens In Nantong

Code-switching is a very common and complex social language phenomenon, on which thestudy is still at the beginning in our country at present. There are rarely papers using Foreignlatest theory which elaborate Laws and characteristics of code-switching between dialect andmandarin. Therefore, in order to understand the background and changing conditions of thecode-switching, the author uses the SPSS13.0software to collect statistics of the corpusandanalyses the results. finally the author does a full study on the code-switching phenomenonand the related problems between mandarin and dialect based on the Myers-Scotton mark modetheory.This paper studies on the code-switching phenomenon from the five parts.Chapter one simply introduces the definition, types of code-switching and research statusfrom domestic and abroad, clears the purpose and meaning of code-switching.Chapter two has a full investigation of the Nantong residents’ attitude towards language, andinvestigates the Nantong residents’ attitude towards mandarin and Nantong dialect separately, inorder to do a comprehensive analysis.Chapter three collects the oral corpus of code-switching, and sorts out three main motivestypes of code-switching based on the Myers-Scotton mark mode theory, forecast the trend of thedevelopment of code-switching with the help of quantitative analysis.Chapter four investigates the impact of code-switching motivations in the relevantcommunication scene, it indicates that how do the differences of different communication scenefactors restrict and interact each other so as to have a big influence of code-switching.In the last Chapter, the development trends of the code-switching have been concludedbetween Nantong dialect and Mandarin from the macroscopic perspective. In the mean time,some suggestions for language planning in this area have been provided as well.Finally according to the result of the survey, the causes of the code-switching in Nantongdialect have been orientated, the main cause of which is that, whatever unmarked or markedcode-switching, the code-switching can be regarded as a kind of rational conversation behavior,which aims to get maximum conversation benefits with a minimum cost.
