Code-switching Of Female Migrants And Prospects To Language Pattern In Changshu

Changshu has witnessed rapid economic and cultural development in recent years,which has brought about the language problems to migrants.The strong dialect of Changshu has been deeply rooted in the minds of many local people,hence the parallelism of Changshu dialect and mandarin gradually constitutes the language pattern in Changshu.Aiming at the group of female migrants,this paper investigated their language usage in daily life through questionnaire survey,sample interview and follow-up recording,combining with Auer's conversational analysis model,Scotton's marker model theory and Giles' speech adaptation theory to further find out the motivation of code-switching.This paper is divided into five chapters.The first chapter not only introduces the background,purpose and method of this research,but the achievements of codeswitching at home and abroad.The second chapter makes a preliminary analysis on the basic situation,language ability,language acquisition,language choice and language attitude of female migrants through the collected questionnaires.The third chapter analyzes the conversational patterns of female migrants and the corpus is author's interviews with 30 female migrants.On the basis of Auer's conversational analysis model,the author classifies and summarizes the daily conversational patterns of female migrants.The fourth chapter summarizes the corpus of interview and follow-up recording,classifying the motivation of foreign female code-switching by Scotton's marker pattern theory and Giles' speech adaptation theory.Based on above investigation and analysis results,chapter five summarizes the code-switching of female migrants,furthermore,the author puts forward suggestions and prospects for the future development of Changshu language society and language pattern.Based on the survey of female migrants' language use,the paper finds that the motivation of code-switching mainly lies in their subjective needs,which means that female migrants want to narrow the gap between local people and themselves through language convergence.This study hopes that readers and language workers will pay more attention to the language use of female migrants.
