The development of economics is inseparable from a large quantity of all-aroundtalents who possess both specialized knowledge and a foreign language. In order tocultivate these all-around talents to meet the needs of future development of thecountry and the region, a school system of Bilingual Education is being rapidlydeveloped, that is, a foreign language and Mandarin Chinese are used as the mediumof instructions in the whole country.With the establishment of the China-ASEAN free trade zone, Guangxi Provincehas become one of the most important gates throw which people from China travel toand fro in ASEAN countries. The socio-economic development of Guangxi Provincehas ushered itself to an era with unprecedented opportunities in this area. Bilingualeducation in Guangxi has achieved some breakthrough on the exploration stage.Inevitably, there are problems in many aspects. For example, how to make languagechoice in bilingual education, there are short of bilingual teachers, and the overalllevel of bilingual education is not satisfactory etc. Given these, how to effectivelymanipulate language resources in Guangxi Province will provide some inspirations tosolve the contradiction between economic development needs of Guangxi and thebackward status of bilingual education. This problem is worth a consideration.Thereare three main questions in this paper:(1) What is the status quo of bilingual education in Guangxi?(2) What kind of bilingual talents are needed by Guangxi market?(3) Which bilingual model is appropriate for the development of bilingualeducation in Guangxi?The theoretical foundation is the economics of language, that is, aninterdisciplinary between economics and linguistics is applied to analyze bilingualeducation in Guangxi. The research method mainly focuses on the collection of latestdata from network and documentations about bilingual education in Guangxi.This study has characteristics of broad perspectives and original topics. Firstly,this study tries to explore “the time-consuming and inefficient” phenomenon inbilingual education in Guangxi in terms of costs-benefits analysis. Secondly,according to the needed bilingual talents in the market, bilingual education shouldreform and make a reasonable language choice in Guangxi. So my study promotes the learners to recognize the competitive advantage of bilingual workers in the labormarket and the importance of multilingual.Thirdly, a new bilingual model of bilingualeducation will be established in Guangxi: the incorporation of English-MandarinChinese bilingual education and Mandarin Chinese-ASEAN languages bilingualeducation.This paper explores the language choice pattern of bilingual education inGuangxi so as to provide some inspiration for the development of Chinese-ASEANbilingual education and the development of international talents in the face of ASEANcountries.
