The uprising trend of ethnic sightseeing in China roused significanttransformation of ethnic culture featuring the development of the minority residences.As for the people in Gouliang Village of Hmong Minority, the ethnic culture whichpasts generation of the locals is inherited from Hmong’s tradition and history andmeanwhile manifested in the daily lives of the people which marks their ways and rulesof living. The existing culture and tradition of Hmong people’s living style, ceremonialpatterns and handicrafts etc. are reproduced into souvenirs for the tourists and both awindow to the outside world which best combines cultural capital with the spectacularscenes with the tourism prospering. Moreover, problems concerning the tourismindustry of Gouliang Village shadowed somehow the prospects of local tourism.This thesis aims to construct a modernized minority group’s culture in developingthe tourism of ethnic regions based on the Hmong experience of Gouliang Village,which is collectively initiated by the following parties or participants: the villagecommittee, the villagers, tourism operators, government institutions, visitors, touringagencies, businessmen from cultural and media circles. In the light that the mostimportant touring resource lies in the minority culture, the leadership of villagecommittee and the tourism operators take advantages of the cultural capital to mouldappropriate touring resources into corresponding commodities for the benefit of localresidents in a bid to advance the traditional farming styles. Furthermore, concerningtheir capital resources and standpoint taken from respective dimensions, different as theindividual agents are they differ in their focuses of interest. However, the habitus willendogenously motivate the various agents to take disparate strategies in pursuing theirown interest and take their part of share, which can be explained by the Game Theorywhile realizing a reproduction of capitals and reallocation of disposable capitals for thevarious agents. Last but not the least, during the development of tourism industry themodernization of Hmong Minority culture of Gouliang village ultimately comes intolight when multicultural choices confront the Hmong people between keeping heritagesand taking innovations, following patterns and initiating modernization, retaining past-experiences and carrying on transformation as the agents are taking their selfishstands. After briefing the content and forms the agents undertake and taking intoaccount the characteristics during the construction of ethnic group’s distinctive culture,the author reached conclusions of corresponding proposals and solutions and shadsome light on the problems loomed ahead, endeavoring to better exploring andprotecting the national culture and resources.
