Both Mencius and Chuang tzu are the most two literary works in the Pre-qinliterature, representatives of Zhu-zi proses, and also have a lot of narrative elements. We will start from the text, conclude that naration of Mencius and Chuang tzu has thefollowing differences and similarities through to the narrative composition comb. The first, the nature of the events is different. The events described in Mencius arebasically in line with history: the persons referred to are real, and the events peopleparticipate in are actually happened in history. In contrast, some of the charactersinvolves in Chuang tzu are real in history, such as Lao zi, Meng Zi, Zhuang Zi, Hui Shiand so on. This is the same point between the two, and the performance ofmixed-together of the literature and history. More characters like skeleton, thin, etc areall the result of fiction; The characters involved in events, are all fictitious, such asdialogues between Chuang tzu and Skeleton and between Confucius and Yan Hui, ect.Second, the self-consciousness manifested in the narrative are strongly different. The present of narration in Mencius are most quotations, which are inherited from the"the analects", such as the high-paced appearance ’Meng Zi-said’. The fables oftenmentioned by researchers are language-straightforward and simple, which are basicallycartoon sketchs. Fiction has been the most important expression in Chuang tzu’s text, together with the organic combination between narrative and talk and have clearnarrative principles and common show the consciousness of narrating. The third, in the structure and pattern of events, the beginning and ending ofevents in Mencius are left out, especially in conversation with the monarch after thereflects which we could not know. However, there are many stories appear in Chuangtzu that Kings searching for advices on how to make world in order. From themotivation of the composition, the two are both to express the narrator’s point of viewthrough the speech. But both the ignoring the plot and mode show us that they want tohave different readers and different political ideology. To sum up, we try to do comparative study on Mencius and Chuang tzunarrationfrom the nature of the event, self-consciousness of the narrating and the structure and mode of the events three aspects based on the texts, reference to otherPre-qin proses, and explain the narrator’s position and value orientation, the differencesof the internal logic.
