Publishing Study Of The British Novels Published On Chinese Mainland In 1949-1999

This article is part of Publishing Research of English Novels Published inChinese Mainland Between 1900 and 1999, focusing on analyzing publishingresearch of English novels published in Chinese mainland between 1949 and1999. Based on the combination of archival research and case study, thearticle tries to explore the successful publishing model of English novelspublished in Chinese mainland between 1949 and 1999, in order to lay a basisfor better selecting and importing English novels in future. Firstly, the articleconsiders Cultural Revolution in 1967 and China Joining the UniversalCopyright Convention in 1992 as separations and divides the 50 years intofour periods. Based on different social reality of different period, the articleexpounds the English novels’details and their publishers and edition features,etc. Secondly, major translators like Zhili Sun, Ruogu Zhang and Keyi Wang aswell as publishing houses like Shanghai Translation Publishing House,People’s Literature Publishing House and Yilin Publishing House are the maincontributors to the translation and publishing of English novels which worthdeeper research. Last but not the least, the article select some classiccollected works and typical writers as key analysis target, including CharlesDickens, Thomas Hardy and Jane Austen. Moreover, the article explores thephenomenon of different editions. Analysis of the influence on Chinesemainland which the English novels exert and the effect which the realismquality and humanism thought involved in English novels have on are writtenas conclusion.
