In the second half of the20th century, take1983as a watershed,the mainland China scholars’history research on western historiography can be divided in two phases,according to the content, the paper comments on the research results of each phase, and summarizes the accomplishment achieved by history research of western historiography in each phase in a classified way,points out the existing problems as well.History research on western historiography in mainland China can be approximately categorized into four types from1949to1983which are namely, general research, historians and their works, country®ional history, and historical genre. In spite of obtaining certain achievements made in data construction, academic accumulation and the cultivation of talents, it had a large number of problems in terms of unfavorable effects of the times, presenting lower level of research fruits, and lacking exchanges&interaction with the Hong Kong and Taiwan and overseas academic circles.Between1983and2000, the accomplishments of history research on western historiography mainly presented in following aspects which is the rapid advances of database building, the maturity system of self-construction in the subject,the brilliant achievements in the process of academism study, the expansion of research team members, and more focus on the exchange among Hong Kong, Taiwan and overseas in academic area.Guo Sheng-ming and Zhang Guang-zhi are two key persons who acted as a milestone in the research of history on western historiography in China mainland. The Summary of History of Western Historiography written by Guo Sheng-ming was published in1983, it fills a gap on the works on history research on western historiography in mainland China. Since the book was published, the history research on western historiography in mainland China has made a breakthrough. History of Western Historiography written by Zhang Guang-zhi was published in2000, which led a further development in the history research on western historiography in mainland China.In the second half of the20th century, the history research on western historiography in mainland China has been turned from a closed way originally into an open way laterly Meanwhile, the research also has been experienced a process from immaturity to maturity, now gradually entered a positive developing period in academic research.The history research needs a further improvement in scholars’ quality, the emphasis on an opening consideration, the products of some classic works on the research,also requires some innovation and more academic debates.So that the research of the history on western historiography in the new century can be promoted further and thoroughly.
