According to rising status of China, more and more peoples in Russia starting learningChinese as a second language. Chinese as a second language is highly valued by the people.Among studies of second language, motivation is one of the most important affective factors inlearning Chinese, which have a great effect on Chinese learners in Russia. The main aim of thisresearch is to find out the factors which have a great influence on Russian students. Another aimof research is to provide reference and recommendations for improving student’s learningmotivation.This research is divided into 6 chapters: introduction, theoretical foundation, research ofRussian student’s learning motivation, research of the results Russian student’s learning Chinesemotivation, main strategies of improving Russian student’s Chinese learning motivation and theconclusion. First chapter is about the reason and significance of this research, also describes thepurpose and methods of this paper and tells us about research overview about second languagelearning motivation in China, Russia and in other countries; the second chapter describes thedefinition, basic structure and classification of the learning motivation; the third chapterdescribes basic information about Russian students learning Chinese as a second language andthe steps and contents of the investigation; the fourth chapter is describing the results of thesurvey, the overall situation of the Russian students learning Chinese and analysis of Russianstudent’s learning motivation in performance difference in gender and age; the fifth chapter isdescribing the recommendations on how to improve Russian student’s Chinese learningmotivation using four-pronged approach to stimulate learner motivation by J.M. Keller; and thelast, six chapter is summarizes the problems of this study, pointing out the deficiencies of thisstudy and put forward recommendations for further research.
