Yang Juyuan, a famous poet in the middle of Tang dynasty, has nolonger been paid attention to up till now, and all his life remainssuspicion. On account of this situation, the author has done someanalysis and researches on Yang Juyuan based on the existing data.The thesis is divided into four chapters, chapter one is the textualresearch of Yang Juyuan’s lifetime and achievements, includingtextual research of his birth year, birth place and official careers, andthe analysis of the unmentioned and doubtful official positions thatwere not mentioned in other research materials. This chapter alsofocuses on the time of entering Weibo, working for Zhang Hongjing,and working as Guozisiye (official position in ancient China). Chaptertwo is the textual research on his making friends. The analysis andthe discussion are on the basis of poems presented by Yang Juyuanand his close friends, including Bai Juyi, Yuan Zhen, Zhang Ji, WangJian, Lu Ting, Duan Wenchang, Lv Wei and Xue Ping etc. Chapter threeis the textual research on Yang Juyuan’s works and their spread.Chapter four analyzes existing poems of Yang JuYuan, which coversfour themes: patriotic poems, frontier fortress poems, parting poems,describing and chanting poems, and finally discusses the artisticachievements of his poems. The research on Yang Juyuan and hispoems are of great importance in promoting the studies of Tang poetry.
