| In ancient China, Christianity, was called Nestorianism and Nestorianism, a name forChristianity in ancient China, was spread to Chang’an, the capital of the Tang dynasty at the ninthyear of Zhenguan. Its influence declined with the suppression of Buddhism movement since thefifth year of Huichang. About four hundred years later, however, Nestorianism was brought toa revival in Yuan dynasty and got the attention of the ruling class. As the Yuan dynastydiminished, Nestorianism influence deteriorated.Though it had been spread in China for onlytwo dynasties, there is an increasing number of researches on Nestorianis being carried out. Yetmost researches are conducted on the development of Nestorianis and its theology, thereremains a gap in researches on the art legacies of Nestorianis, such as paintings, sculptures, etc.This paper is to discuss the connotation of Nestorianism art by analyzing the paintings, sculptures,and historical remains along the silk road in Xinjiang, Shannxi, and Inner Mongolia, China. |
