Koguryo archeological is China’s border archaeological the emphasis of research, he research for Koguryo bricks and eaves tiles also belong to the Koguryo archeological important component. Previous research focus on Koguryo in eaves tiles type classification and staging research, deficiency is only pay attention to the change of the eaves tiles, no more consideration in the application of bricks and tiles in remains. This paper will be to solve these problems, combining previous research and the latest achievements of archaeological excavations, Analysis and discussion the use of brick and tile on Koguryo.This paper is composed of six chapters:Chapter One:ForewordIntroduce the research history of Koguryo bricks and tiles, research status and deficiency, this paper studies the purpose and the research methods.Chapter Two:Analysis of typology of bricks and tilesUsing the method of typology, combining previous research results, the bricks and eaves tiles in the area of Ji’an are divided into several types.Chapter Three:Period of the bricks and eaves tilesAccording to the using form of Koguryo bricks and eaves tiles and the change of the eaves tiles, the using of bricks and eaves tiles roughly divided into three periods: The first, the use of tile phenomenon In the tombs has been found, from lth century to 3th century and divided into early and late period, The second, bricks and eaves tiles are found using in sites, winding the cloud veins have appeared during the 4th century.The third, the phenomenon of using bricks and eaves tiles in sites is more generally, winding the cloud veins have been disappeared, beast veins and honeysuckle veins became popular.during 4 century late until Koguryo perished. Chapter Four:The analysis of unearthed bricks and eaves tiles in remainsCombine with the excavation report, to set unearthed the sites and tombs of the brick sand eaves tiles in the area of Ji’an for analysis, to introduced the Situation of sites,such as Guonei City and Wandu Mountain City, and to speculate the properties of the sites. The tombs which unearthed bricks and eaves tiles are almost the Koguryo mausoleums, according to the analysis of tombs structure and unearthed state of bricks and eaves tiles, contribute to conjecture the using form of bricks and eaves tiles on tombs.Chapter Five:The using form and characteristics of bricks and eaves tilesThrough the analysis of the above, be sure facilities’level which using bricks and eaves tiles is high. With the different of sites’properties, the using forms of bricks and eaves tiles are different too. Including two system:the building sites system and the tombs system. The building sites system beginning in the 4th century early, Combined with historical records and archaeological materials, this paper argues that bricks and eaves tiles are used for palace building, sacrifice temple architecture, high level of government buildings, the gate and the building on the wall of capital and buddhist temple architecture. The time of the tombs system is earlier than the building sites system, it can early to lth century. The Use of bricks and eaves tiles is very limited, it may only be use to protect the stone table, the room and the table and its surrounding area of rooms.Chapter Six:ConclusionTo summarize the foregoing article. This paper argues that the use of brick s and eaves tiles in Koguryo is widely and follow a strict hierarchy.
