The research on Baekje(??)eaves tiles in South Korea can be traced back to the early 20th century.So far,about 40 landscapes have been found and more than 160 lotus-pattern eaves tile have been unearthed in Buyeo(??)and Gongju(??).With the continuous excavation and investigation,the number of eaves tile and ancient ruins are still increasing.This paper tries to make a classification research of the lotus pattern tiles in Baekje and find out the characteristics of them before and after Baekje moved to the capital.Comparing them with the lotus pattern tiles of the Northern and Southern Dynasties in China,this paper analyses the Chinese elements and the characteristics of their own development in the lotus-pattern tiles of Baekje.Finally,it discusses that Baekje.As a bridge of cultural communication,introduced the lotus pattern eaves tiles to Silla and Japan.Since then the lotus-pattern became the most popular pattern in East Asian architecture.This paper consists of three parts:introduction,main body and conclusion.The chapter one is the introduction part,it mainly elaborates the purpose and significance of the choosing topic,the current research situation of domestic and foreign academic circles,and the innovation and research methods of this paper.The chapter two elaborates the origin of Buddhist lotus pattern.After the emergence of Indian Buddhism,lotus has been endowed with new meaning and forms an inseparable connection with Buddhism since then.Lotus has become one of the symbols of Buddhism,and lotus patterns with Buddhist meanings are frequently used in various decorative fields.Buddhism has undergone a long process of development since it was introduced into China from India and it flourished unprecedentedly in the Northern and Southern Dynasties.So the use of lotus pattern reached its peak in this period.In the communication between Baekje and the Southern and Northern Dynasties,Buddhism was introduced as a part of culture and developed rapidly with the support of the Baekje Royal.The Buddhism has developed rapidly after the combination with local culture of Baekje and has a profound impact on all aspects of Baekje society.Buddhist art is like a rising star shining on of the culture of Baekje.Especially Baekje lotus tiles become a unique view of the eaves because lotus pattern lines are gentle and elegant,the shape is various.The chapter three elaborates the main unearthed places and main types of lotus pattern tiles in Baekje,Seoul,Woongjin(??)and Sabi(??).It also introduces the discovery environment and situation of lotus pattern tiles in different periods.Secondly,the lotus patterns on unearthed tiles in different periods are classified according to the number of lotus petal and lotus seeds,and the appearance of lotus petals.The chapter four classifies and sorts out the main styles of lotus pattern tiles in the Northern and Southern Dynasties at first,and then compares them with the tiles in Paekche.The similarities and differences of lotus pattern tiles between Baekje and the Northern and Southern Dynasties are found out.This paper makes a further exploration of the influence on the development of Baekje lotus-patterneaves tiles which caused by the exchanges between Baekje and the Northern and Southern Dynasties.After absorbing the advanced culture of the Northern and Southern Dynasties,Baekje introduced the popular lotus-pattern eaves tiles into Silla and Japan through the envoys.The chapter five is the conclusion.It summarizes the whole paper.
