The idiom is a fixed phrase, which has a deep meaning, concise formwith bookish style shade of meaning, it is an important unit ofphraseology, moreover, it is an essential component of vocabulary systemof different languages. The idiomatical unit has always been one of themost topical issues to investigate for all linguists and culture experts ofdifferent countries.There are many types of idioms in every language, so it is verydifficult to make a comprehensive report in one essay, that’s why I choseidioms with the component-plant, and according to this point of view Imade my analysis. A lot of kinds of plants as the components of differentphraseological units contain cultural customs of different countries, moralqualities, searching for intellectual values, a way of thinking, life habitsof people of different nations.While writing the following essay, I have looked through andtranslated a great variety of materials, analysed a great amount ofphraseological dictionaries, idiom dictionaries etc. After conducting adetailed investigation of those materials, I made an analysis, classificationand a summary on the work done. This essay briefly discussed the originof idioms with a component-plant and their types; the biggest and themost essential part of this essay is connected with plants as componentsof idioms of both languages and their cultural connotations.I have chosen for my essay some the most typical plants of China andUkraine, those plants which are of great importance for our culturalinheritance, f.e. Chinese symbols-菊(chrysanthemum),兰(orchid),梅 (plum tree),竹(bamboo) and related to them idioms; Ukrainian symbols-荚�'�花(arrowwood),橡树(oak),黄柳(willow),荞麦(buckwheat) etc.and related to them idioms.My essay is based on the metaphorical theory, it introduces theprocess when people face new things and experience new feelings, whichdescribe us the meaning of those plants.With the progress of society, the relations between two countries Chinaand Ukraine are becoming more and more intensive. Get to knowculture and language of these countries can bring lots of advantages andbenefits for exchange learning techniques, studying, paying return visits,sightseeing between mentioned countries.
