Gadamer On The Relation Of Human Sciences And Bildung

After a simple statement to gadamer’s philosophical hermeneutics, this essay is worked out, tracing Gadamar’s train of thought. First of all, I do some investigation on the the history of the human sciences and think that the logic of human sciences was wholly governed by the model of the natural sciences at the very beginning. That is to say, the human sciences is developing by accepting the logic and methods of natural sciences, and attempts to become the real science as imitating or retrofiting the methods of natural sciences, Gadamer think that not only can the human scicences become real science, we will also lose the natural understanding of it when we apply the methods of natural scicences to human scicences. Of course, the methods here mainly refer to the methodology of the modern science. He thinks, the humanist tradition is significant to human sciences, especially the conception of "Bildung", which is the core element of the existing of the human sciences, laying the foundation of the human sciences, then Gadamer turns to analying the concept of "Bildung"; In the investigation of the Bildung, it is concluded that human scicences cannot develop without the concept of Bildung; it is Bildung, not the method that makes the human sciences to be understood and takes itself in the list of science. After Gadamer’s crucial state of the relation between human sciences and Bildung, we get a new understanding of human sciences, and we also have a new understanding of the truth. Reflect on the current which is expanded with modern science, humanistic discipline is missing or should not be paid attention, the current situation of the crisis of science and technology and cultural, revitalizing Gadamer’s view of human sciences, it is no doubt giving a positive guidance to the current society and the construction of the humanities.
