In the late Tang Dynasty, the prosperity of love poem occurred again, which urged us with a great deal of interest and curiosity to appreciate the world of Late Tang Love Poem:the romantic emotion hidden in the verses, and the beauty of the poet’s views. However, the misunderstanding and prejudice about the love poem along the time have complex our appreciation with uncertainties. Therefore, this study was conducted to further discover the love poem, consisting of its creation of subject, literary origins, ideological content and artistic characteristic, as well as its cultural connotations. An attempt was made to restore the most realistic look of the Late Tang Love Poem, and explore its charming of art and humanity. So that we can have a more in-depth understanding and more comprehensive grasp of the Late Tang Love Poem.This thesis is organized via applicable chapters as follows:Introduction. This section consists of an introduction to the topic, the definition of love poem, the achievements and deficiencies in the current academic research and the problem statement on filling the gap to improve the systematic research of Late Tang Love Poem.Chapter1. The mindset of the Late Tang Love Poem body is discussed from authors’identities and their mind. The authors were mainly Beijing officials, cited scholar and prostitutes, and they created the poem with mind-set of sadness for end of the world and enjoyment for gaming.Chapter2. This section addresses the art characteristics of Late Tang Love Poem that are:1) in the form as a group and repeated chorus;2) in the form of imagery tending to be gorgeous, vivid, cold and amorous; and3) expressing feelings with three unique ways of retrospection, chanting poems and immortals.Chapter3. The literary origins of the Late Tang Love Poem are discussed from the distant, near and side sources, which are poems of court style in Southern Dynasty, love poem in middle Tang Dynasty, and Legends of Tang Dynasty, respectively. Chapter4. This segment explores the content and ideas of the Late Tang Love Poem. There are three aspects of the love poem:expressing the beauty of women appearance, chanting the emotion between men and women other than couple, and portraying the love between males and females, from which we see the women viewpoint and life awareness.Chapter5. The relationship between Late Tang Love Poem and Taoism is illustrated based on love poetry about immortals and the interpretation of romantic of immortals. Taking the Cold Food Festival as an breakthrough point, the relation of love poem to the solar terms is explored to analyze the unique cultural connotations of love poem.It is undeniable that Late Tang Love Poem had significant impact with tons of authors and wide range of transmission. It records the scenes of life and aesthetic taste of scholars back then, and also displays the sincerity of love and beauty of humanity. It is the projection of the poet’s mentality and also the inevitable development of literary; It reveals the color of life, the special perspective on the appreciation of beauty, although the writing attitude is somewhat playful, the emotion is mostly sincere and warm. Though there are some wretched works that are vulgar and expressing the sensuality, we can not ignore the expression of noble emotion of the poem itself. The fact that poetry has been playing the role of political indoctrination shackles the people’s expression of their true feelings, and only in this area.
