Li Shujian’s Henan Opera Art Research

Li Shujian, the famous Henan Opera performing artist in Henan Province, is the regimentalcommander of Second Regiment of Henan Opera, Vice-President of Henan Literary Federation, Chairmanof the Drama Association and the national Class A actor. Over the past years, he has fully devoted himselfto the performance of Henan Opera and the learning and research of Opera scripts. He also constantlyexcavated and explored traditional Henan Opera, and thoughtfully made up and innovate the traditionalscripts. On the stage, he tries his best to well play each role which is unique in Henan Opera schools and hehas already created his own artistic style. He repeatedly received awards in various kinds of performancesat home and abroad; his performances made the ancient art form, Henan Opera full of new glory once again.Both his artistic achievements and drama concepts have much higher research value.This thesis makes a research and summary on Mr. Li Shujian’s Opera arts, which is divided into thefollowing chapters:Chapter I: The review of Mr. Li Shujian’s artistic life. This chapter discusses Mr. Li Shujian’s growthhistory from three parts----“Hungry and lonely boyhood”,“Long quest and art luck” and “Accumulatingto glory”.“Hungry and lonely boyhood” focuses on the social background of Mr. Li Shujian’s childhood;“Long quest and art luck” introduces Mr. Li Shujian’s hard progress of schooling;“Accumulating toglory” introduces Mr. Li Shujian’s artistic practice and specific school, as well as his innovation anddevelopment of traditional Opera.Chapter2: The presentation of Mr. Li Shujian’s Opera art style and philosophy, as well as hisinnovative ideology of Henan Opera. This chapter is mainly divided into three aspects: The first part talksabout the inheritance and innovation of “Henan Western Tune”. it also makes a comparison and analysis oftraditional singing methods of “Henan Western Tune” and the one reformed by Mr. Li Shujian; The secondpart explains the formation of Mr. Li Shujian’s singing style and his “tragic trilogies”. Meanwhile, it makesspecific analysis on the outpouring of “truth” the art of “crying” and the spirit of “reforming”; The thirdpart pays more attentions to explaining the combination of Mr. Li Shujian’s artistic performance with otherkinds of artistic categories and modern elements; and it also analyzes the absorption and integration of Mr.Li Shujian’s Opera artistic style with living language intonation. Chapter3: Summary of Mr. Li Shujian’s contribution on Henan Opera performance and its theories.
