Henan Yuediao opera,which had been formerly known as Yuediao opera,is also called Siguxianopera in some places of Henan province owing to the main musical instrument “Four strings”.The name ofHenan Yuediao has been distinguished with Hubei Yuediao opera since1940s.Dating back at least300years of history,it had been listed in the first group of national intangible cultural heritage in2006as one ofthe three most influential local operas of Henan province.This thesis demonstrates the origin and evolutionof the opera,and also summarizes its institutional characteristics.Basing on the study of Henan Yuediaoopera traditional repetoires,the thesis investigates the paly modality and programme sources,analyzing therich social cultural meanings and aesthetic qualities of the opera as well.In the end,the thesis expects toplay an active part in the protection and spreading of Henan Yuediao Opera by finding the effective waysof local operas in the background of globalization.The whole thesis consists of three parts:Preface,Body and Conclusion.The preface gives a brief introduction of the current situation of academic study about it,thematerial sources and research angle,viewpoints and methods.The body expounds the topic from five items.Chapter one:The origin,formation and development of Henan Yuediao opera.This part expoundsthe origin and formation by arranging a great number of documents and some points of theauthorities;Meanwhile,it makes a rough skeleton about the evolution based on a wide investigation andcollection of the materials on the history about the opera.Chapter two:The artistic features of Henan Yuediao opera.This part gives a systematic analysisof its artistic features from the aspects of tune system,musical instrument and role assignment,which is animportant reflection of the historic and cultural values on the opera to some extent.Chapter three:The play forms and sources.The traditional plays has been divided into“Zhengzhuang Opera” and “Waizhuang Opera” through the different artistic features mentioned in the lastchapter.Furthermore,the sources of the plays have been exploded and discripted in the hope of studying thetext forms totally. Chapter four:The ideological contents of the plays.The traditional plays are divided into socialhistorical plays,family ethical plays and religious plays according to the different subjectcategories.Besides,some representatives have been choosen to be discripted in order that we can reveal thesocial background and characteristics behind the plays more deeply.Chapter five:The text characters of the plays.It has been interpreted from three aspects:the typedfeatures in the creation of plays,humorous and popular expressions,the consciousness of the commonpeople.The conclusion part makes a summary of the thesis and emphasize the precious values of HenanYuediao opera such as social cultural and folk custom aspects.In addition,we hope that the opera has awider development space and a better future.
