It attempts to explore the artisticcharacteristic of his poetry through the discussion about his personality, his life experience and his poetrybased on the previous researches by other scholars. This thesis falls into four chapters.Chapter One is the discussion about Xie Tiao and his poetry. Due to his painful life experience and thepopularity of the reclusion of the officials at that time, Xie Tiao has a special feeling about the beauty of theNature. He indicates his lofty ideal by expressing his love of the natural beauty. Under his pen, the naturalbeauty is no longer purely the object of the aesthetics,It has become the subject of the aesthetics.Chapter Two is mainly the analysis of the artistic connotation of Xie Tiao’s poetry. The analysis isunraveled from three aspects, i.e. the arts of scenery depiction, the characteristic of expressing feelings andthe rational reflection. Scenery depiction is analyzed from the perspective of the skills of scenerydepiction, such as choosing scenery, imitating scenery, melting scenery, etc. The expression of feelings isanalyzed from three perspectives, sush as the content of feelings-expressing,the mode offeelings-expressing,the special characteristic of feelings-expressing.Rational reflection is analyzed fromspeculation and the philosophy of life.He expresses his emotion through his scenery description, makinghis emotion and the natural beauty mixed together. He illustrates philosophical ideas in his poetry.Chapter Three mainly discusses the artistic features of Xie Tiao’s poetry. His poetry is in a variety ofstyles, both fresh, bright and depressed, vague. Meanwhile, it carries a graceful and concealed feature. As arepresentative writer of Yongming Style, he applies the theory of the law of sounds to his poetic creation. Thus, his poetry is smooth, graceful and neat in syntactic structure, which sets a good foundation for theformation of five-character metrical verse in Tang Dynasty.Chapter Four is an analysis of the imagery in Xie Tiao’s scenic poetry. He mainly takes eventide, sunset, flying birds, flowers and grass as the imagery in his scenic poetry. As an aesthetic concept, imageryis created by the poets’ emotional manipulation of the objective items. It is a kind of artistic image rich inideological implication. Therefore, the analysis of his poetry is also dependent on the explanation ofimagery.
