Hoist, a plant with rich humanities implication, plays a significant role in the longhistory of Chinese culture as the theme in the creation of ceramic works from ancientChina. As early as in the immemorial Neolithic period, the ancient craftsmen, inspired bythe gourd fruit, began to create calabash-shaped potteries. When in the Qing Dynasty(1636~1911), the calabash-shaped flask has become one of the vital traditional Chineseceramics. It boasts high aesthetic value with its beautiful shape and enjoys extremely richcultural connotations, thus collected by the Royal family. The present paper, based oncollections of three reigns of Emperor KANGXI, YONGZHENG and QIANLONGduring the Qing Dynasty, investigates from the shape, decoration style, as well as thecauses of different varieties of gourd bottle. The paper first traces the origin of gourdculture, summarizes the development prior to the Qing Dynasty, and then classifies themaccording to the shape with sudies of historical literature, image analysis method, themethod of interdisciplinary research.Decoration and style of those made in the threereigns, thus revealing the socio-historic reasons hid behind. The research significance ishoping to sort out some of the Qing Dynasty, KANGXI, YONGZHENG andQIANLONG, dry period of bottle gourds cultural context. The three generation of theQing gourd bottle shape, decoration of the different characteristics of the times,KANGXI tall, elegant, YONGZHENG subtle, delicate, QIANLONG overelaborate,gorgeous. Its style is formed out of the social and cultural background, in the processbased on the progress of technology, by the feudal autocratic monarchy supreme ruler ofthe deep effect.
