A Comparaitve Study On Sabsu

Sabsu who was the first general of Heilongjiang in Qing Dynasty had made greatcontributions to resist the aggression of Tsarist Russia and consolidate the northeast frontierdefense so as to safeguard the territorial integrity of Qing Dynasty. As a historical figure,Sabsu was highly praised by Manchu people, and there left lots of legends and archivesconcerning with his heroic deeds which were compiled and published as a long oral literature(Manchu Shuo bu) called “Serials of stories about Sabsu”. This thesis makes acomprehensive comparison study on Sabsu between the Shuo bu and other historical literature.This work can help people to figure out some problems on history of Qing Dynasty as well asboost the research on the history of northeast borderland and Sino-Russian relations.In this thesis, theories and methods of history and literature and other subjects arecomprehensively applied. In Section1, the significance of this study is presented and therelated works are also introduced. Sabsu’s image and its characteristics in the Manchu Shuobu is described in brief in Section2. Moreover, based on the official archives and localdocuments, and other related materials, the historical achievements of Sabsu are discussed inSection3. Section4makes Sabsu’s growth courses and his historical achievements as amainline, and compares the similarities and differences in the descriptions between theManchu Shuo bu and other historical literature by making a list. The important role of theShuo bu for enriching and perfecting the historical literature is pointed out, at the same time,the impaction and restriction on the Shuo bu exerted by the historical literature is also clearlydescribed. Furthermore, a deep discussion about all Sabsu’s life and his historicalcontributions are given. Finally, in Section5, a conclusion is made that the Manchu Shuo buis a great of importance for enhancing the patriotic education of the contemporary youth aswell as carrying forward the heritage of Manchu culture.
