GuoPu is an outstanding litterateur in the two-jin, and hispoetries about immortals gave the greatest impact on latergenerations. However, the literary value of GuoPu’s poetries aboutimmortals does not cause sufficient attention of academia in a longterm. The author has studied GuoPu’s poetries about immortalscomprehensively and confirms their literary value, and hopesscholars pay more attention to GuoPu’s poetries about immortals.This article is divided into five parts except the preface and theconclusion.The first part makes a textual research on GuoPu’s life. GuoPuescaped to the south of the Yangtze River from Wen’xi, hishometown, to avoid the chaos of the war in the end of the WesternJin Dynasty. There are different views about whether he passedWangwu Mountain and the time in which he arrived in LuJiang. Theauthor considers that GuoPu didn’t pass Wangwu Mountain and itshould be about the spring of YongJia fifth year, 311 A.D. in which he arrived in LuJiang after a textual research. To GuoPu’scommunication, the author considered that there were 11 peoplewith which GuoPu associated in his time by studying the relativehistorical materials. To his production time, the author considersthat GuoPu wrote his poetries about immortals starting at TaiNingfirst year of Emperor Ming of Jin, Si Mashao, and ending at TaiNingsecond year. The second part focuses on the main theme ofGuoPu’s poetries about immortals. GuoPu formed very complexthoughts and emotions in his inner world, which made his poetriesabout immortals showing various purports. The author categorizesGuoPu’s purport into four parts which include the dream for chasingimmortal, the complaint over his era, the joy of seclusion and theway of fitness regimen. The third part discusses the particular fairyworld in GuoPu’s poetries about immortals. Different from the otherones, GuoPu’s poetries about immortals, in which the heroes wereoften not immortals but hermits and the wonderland was often aHoly Land of seclusion, created a particular sensory imagination.The fourth part focuses on the study of GuoPu’s poetries aboutimmortals and the poetries of the two-jin. GuoPu filled the contentof his poetries with reality and life which makes his poetries morevivid than those tasteless mystery poetries and full of specialartistic enchantment. GuoPu’s poetries about immortals changed the poetry style of Jin Dynasty and played the role which linked thepreceding with the following on landscape poetry of the Jin Dynasty.The fifth part focuses on the comparison between GuoPu’s poetriesabout immortals and the ones of CaoZhi and LiBai . GuoPu’spoetries about immortals are similar to the Cao Zhi’s in theideological connotation and have more vividness. The content ofLiBai’s is richer than GuoPu’s and their choice of imagery anddiction tonal rhyme are different in the artistic means.
