With its development,the light-shadow language of painting has become anindispensable part of various kinds of western painting language,and it has experienced acontinuous exploration and improvement process.Because of this kind of language, theChinese watercolor painting have a subtle change and unique charm, and also watercoloristshave changed from no light-shadow consciousness to simply focusing on the light and darktone, light-shadow from an auxiliary method of shaping and objectively showing thestereoscopic visual effect to an independent expressive language, and it can be dominantlyconstructed,the application of light-shadow language become a part of picture aesthetic, it hasalso formed objective to subjective, single to diversity trend of development.Withwatercolorists’consciousness of creativeness, more art styles, display forms and possibilitieshave been created.Through three parts,this essay discourses in great detail on the developing context oflight-shadow language of the Chinese watercolor painting, the aesthetic expression and itsrational thinking of light-shadow application.In the first part,the article analyzes inside andoutside factors of the light-shadow language development with perspectives of inheritanceand reference, and distinct expression styles in each period.And thus the article deeplyexplores the development characteristics of the language.Deep researches will also be madeto the development characteristics of the light-shadow language. In the second part, from theprospective of visual and the language of watercolor itself, with the strengthen of theautonomy of present watercolorists and the changes of aesthetic concept as the soil for the development of the light-shadow language, the article demonstrates the visual representationof the light-shadow application in watercolors and the argumentation that the basicwatercolor language produces particular aesthetic taste in the expression of light-shadow.Thisarticle reveals the aesthetic expression of light-shadow application in Chinese Presentwatercolor painting.In the third part, from the levels of form and psychology, I will focus onthe analysis of the contemporary aesthetic orientation’s rational thinking about the applicationof light-shadow language.I will also study the interaction between light-shadow languageand watercolor artistic expression. And according to the author thinking in the creatingprocess and the achieved representation results of color,light-shadow.The article draws aconclusion that only if we thoroughly grasp and reflect on the light-shadow language, timespirit, and the theme’s psychology, can we put the modern significance into the Chinesewatercolor painting and provide the new ideas of modern watercolor painting’s creation.
