A Study Of Simultaneous Interpretation Of Diverse Figures Based On Effotr Model

Figure, as semantic information, can hardly be triggered or prompted even set in adiscourse with the clear and specific context. Therefore, it has been recognized that figureis one of the biggest barriers to interpreters. Difficult and important as the interpretation is,discussions on SIDF strategies are far from desirable, and most of the discussions focus onstudying interpreting accurate figure. This thesis, drawing on the strengths of the prevailingstrategies, integrates the simultaneous interpretation of figures with the effort modelproposed by Gile. By dividing diverse figures into accurate figure, approximate figure,modification figure and culture-loaded figure and analyzing their respective features andeffort distribution in their interpretation, the thesis proposes a complete set of strategies forinterpreting the diverse figures.Contrast and summary are the main methods used in this thesis. And structurally, thebody of the thesis includes three chapters.Chapter one discusses the reasons why SIDF is a tough burden for the interpreter.Based on the effort model brought up by Daniel Gile, it explores the reasons from thefollowing four aspects: simultaneous interpretation and its characteristics, effort distribution,features of SIDF, evaluation criteria for the simultaneous interpretation quality.Chapter two discusses simultaneous interpretation of the accurate figure. It mainlydeals with the two aspects: the accurate figure and effort distribution, and interpretationstrategy of the accurate figure.Chapter three discusses simultaneous interpretation of the approximate figure,modification figure and culture-loaded figure. Four kinds of figures are studied one by one,following the same research pattern as in chapter two.The analysis of this thesis focuses more on the strategies of interpreting in integral andthe culture-loaded figure in light of the effort distribution respectively required. As bignumbers and culture-loaded figures are more of a burden to the interpreter, the thesisstudies them more, and relevant applicable strategies have been put forward to combatproblems. While as to other kinds of figures, by way of definition and summary, the thesishopes to bring them also into people’s attention so that they wouldn’t be neglected.
