Simultaneous interpretation has been of significance in communication around the world. However, figures translation brings difficulties for interpreters. The thesis aims to study the difficulties interpreters confronted and strategies that should be used to deal with these scenarios with the effort model of simultaneous interpretation initiated by Daniel Gile. The leading part introduces the difficulties that figures translation brings on interpreters and significance of choosing this subject. The literature review introduces Gile’s Effort Model on simultaneous interpretation, studying interpreters have to scale up their efforts to handle figure translation. Then, the thesis studies figure translation in English-Chinese simultaneous interpretation in light of effort model. It includes the definition of figures translation in this study, the specific aspects of impact that figures have on interpreters and coping strategies. The experiment part aims to find out interpreters performance when confronting figures interpretation, analyze reasons that may affect their performance and propose strategies to cope with that.
