Internship Report As A Chinese-English News Translator

News media provide a fastest, most convenient and most economical way for thepublic to comprehend the events happening in a region, a country and even across the world.The news serves as an important channel for people from different countries with differentculture to communicate and interact with each other.As China’s development gains momentum in the world, many foreign people tend tocome to China to study, work and live here, and understand and experience the Chineseculture and society for themselves, while more and more Chinese people feel it urgent tounderstand the world. However, it is difficult for everybody to understand each and everylanguage, which sets an obstacle for them to gain the messages they need, while translationor interpretation serves as a useful tool to solve that problem.Translation or interpretation is a tool for communication of information, emotion,thoughts and culture. In this thesis, the author aims to present an internship report in whichthe intern experience as a translator with the Changchun TV station is introduced, and thereport will focus on the problems met with during the internship and put forward sometactics and strategies to solve these problems, meanwhile, the strategies employed in thenews interpretation are to be introduced, and a comparative analysis of the strategies usedin news translation and news interpretation is to be conducted.This thesis is a preliminary exploration on writing master’s degree thesis in the formof internship report; it provides an overview of the internship program, including thebackground of the translation program and the responsibilities of the intern translator in theprogram group, and meanwhile it summarizes the author’s job during the internship,including the preparation work before the translation, the process of the translation, whichinvolves some translation strategies, for example addition, abridgement and adaptation, andthe proofreading after the translation. The author hopes that the report can help to improvethe translation ability through the review and summary of the internship experience and atthe same time may facilitate the understanding of news translation for the learners oftranslation.
