A Report On C-E Translation Practice Of Yichang Government News Website Under Guidance Of Translation As Adaptation Theory

The dissertation is a translation practice report. The translation task described inthe report is the C-E translation project of Yichang Government News Website inwhich the writer participated from November,2013to October,2014. The reportexplores into the adaptive selections made by the writer to improve the C-E newstranslation quality and promote the cross-cultural communication. By analyzing thetranslation strategies and skills from perspective of translation as adaptation andselection, the report aims to provide reference for parallel texts in the future as well asincrease its practical value.In the report, the writer first analyzes the textual distinction between source andtarget texts, and also introduces the procedure of the translation practice. And then,the writer gives an analysis of the adaptive techniques that the writer applies from thelinguistic, cultural and communicative dimensions under guidance of translation asadaptation and selection theory. Finally, the writer points out the limitation of thisreport and puts forward suggestions for further research.The report shows that, the translation obstacles caused by significant distinctionbetween Chinese-language news and English-language news style is the difficulty aswell as importance during translation practice. The translator thus needs to adapt tovarious translational eco-environment elements such as linguistic custom, culturaldiversity, purpose of source text, target readers’ reading expectation and so on.Translation as adaptation and selection theory could help translators overcometranslation difficulties related to wording, sentence and passage structure accuratelyand comprehensively from linguistic, cultural and communicative dimensions.Therefore, it is desired for the translator to achieve satisfactory target text under theguidance of three-dimensional principle.
