Teaching Chinese as a Second language (TCSL) include several aspects such as pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar and Chinese characters.Among them, the significance of Chinese vocabulary is self-evident. In vocabulary teaching, idiom is a difficult but also a key point. For foreign students, learning and using idiom can help them improve their Chinese proficiency, especially in advanced stage, accurately grasp and use a certain number of idioms is not only the inevitable requirement of various courses but also the difficulty which they need to conquer to improve their HSK scores. Current Chinese idioms teaching has attracted the attention of many people, the research on it has been gradually thorough, but many related articles are biased in ontology research, there still lack articles that based on Chinese idioms teaching to foreign students.This thesis is divided into four chapters:The first chapter is the introduction, which discusses how this problem was put forward, and the meaning and purpose of this research, research object and research method. When doing teaching activities, the authors noticed the problem of idiom teaching and begin to collect students’idiom corpus and carry out questionnaires on idiom learning, hoping to do a through study on Chinese idioms teaching to foreign students. The author also hopes this paper can help other teachers to improve future Chinese idioms effects. The research object of this paper is Nanjing University’s first grade foreign students who take the course "Advanced Chinese". One research method of this paper is collect students’idiom corpus and makes error analysis; another research method is questionnaire survey.The second chapter is the analysis on students’idiom corpus. It includes four parts:the first part is the collected statistics and analysis of corpus, from which we can get information on students’idiom output situation. The second part is the analysis on the statistical results of questionnaire1, from which we can further understand the situation of students’learning idioms. The third part is the error analysis on idiom corpus. The author divided collected idiom errors into three categories. The fourth part is the discussion on the reasons of students’idiom error. It is worth mentioning that the discussion is based on the analysis of the statistical result of questionnaire2.The third chapter is the investigation of "Chinese Vocabulary and Chinese Characters Syllabus","Chinese Proficiency Test Syllabus Level6", Chinese textbooks for foreign students. Through this investigation, the author found some problems in them."Chinese Vocabulary and Chinese Characters Syllabus" does not have enough idioms and the idioms in it can not meet the practical needs of students.""Chinese Proficiency Test Syllabus Level6" does not have effective tests on students’idiom proficiency. Chinese textbooks also have a lot of defaults in idiom editing and idiom exercise.The fourth chapter is the countermeasure on Chinese idioms teaching.This paper firstly puts forward advices on idiom editing for "Chinese Vocabulary and Chinese Characters Syllabus" such as to make reasonable arrangements, eliminating some out-of-date idiom, increase the number of commonly used and high frequency idioms.Secondly, the article put forward idiom writing advice for Chinese textbook, such as to avoid text selecting at random, offer more clear definition of idioms notes, enhance relevance among textbooks, increase the types of idioms practice. The author also gives his suggestions on idioms teaching from four aspects.
