Motivated by the national interests and geopolitical factors, the Eisenhower government believed that the Indochina was becoming more and more important to the United States. With the change of the situation in Indochina, the abortion of Indo-US "Joint Action" in1953, and the impact of domestic factors, the Eisenhower government decided to implement the Covert Action in Indochina. This thesis takes the documents on the Covert Action of the Eisenhower government as the backing. It is under the guidance of the dialectical and historical Materialism, takes the history of empirical analysis and comparison method as the basic theoretical foundations. By combing the Covert Action of the Eisenhower government in Indochina, the thesis argues that the Covert Action of the Eisenhower government in the colonial and semi-colonial countries are different from the U.S. Covert Action in the Soviet Union and other communist countries, and the essence of the Covert Action is a method of the U.S. neo-colonialism.The thesis is composed of the following six parts.The preface narrates the reasons for choosing the title, research status, theoretical basis, methods, historical materials and new ideas of the thesis.The first chapter analyses the cause of the implementation of the Covert Action in Indochina, including the importance of Indochina, the change of the situation in Indochina and the American domestic factors.The second chapter expounds the directive of the Covert Action of the Eisenhower government in Indochina-NSC10and NSC5412series, and the directive of the U.S. National Security Council on the status of Indochina-NSC5429series.The third chapter discusses the Covert Action of the Eisenhower government in Indochina under the guidance of the documents on the Covert Action from1953to1960. First, the chapter analyses the stronghold of the Covert Action in Indochina which was set up by the U.S. government in Thailand. Next, the chapter tries to sort out the Covert Action of the Eisenhower government in Indochina from1953to1960.The fourth chapter evaluates the Covert Action which was applied by the Eisenhower government in Indochina. First of all, it is pointed out that the Covert Action which was applied by the U.S. government and the United States public diplomatic policies in Indochina are mutually supportive and complementary, it is an important means to achieve the American Cold War strategy. Then the chapter discusses the impact of the Covert Action of the Eisenhower government in Indochina, it is also pointed out that the essence of the Covert Action by the Eisenhower government in Indochina is a method of the U.S. neo-colonialism.At the end of this thesis, the author makes a conclusion and mentions the shortage and gives some suggestions on further study of this topic.
