With an overview of root-seeking novels, we obviously feel a mysterious aura. After the Scar literature, the Reflection literature, and the Reform Literature, theChinese literature of the new period transforms from the main stream of politicsstandard to the main stream of culture standard in the mid eighty’s. In the push of"cultural boom", literary world begins a spectacular great discussion of “cultureroot-seeking”. Han Shaogong and Jia Pingwa, the representatives of "root-seeking"literature school, dig out deeply the root of national literature by carrying thebanner of “root-seeking”. In the process of “root-seeking”, the writers invariablyfind a variety of mysterious culture spreading in the countryside. On the other hand, inspired by the success of Latin American’s Magic-Realism literary, the Chinese”root-seeking” writers combine the mysterious native cultural resources with thecreative method of magic realism; as a result, mysticism appears in their writtentexts implicitly or explicitly.Based on this, the first chapter of this paper clarifies the meaning of“mystery”,“mysticism”, and the relationship between literature and mysticism.Chapter two discusses the mystery of the “root-seeking” novels from the fiveaspects of the mysterious folk customs, the mysterious nature landscape, thespectral and mysterious folk legends, the ancient mysterious cultural phenomenon, and the mysterious concepts. Chapter three analyses the causation of thereappearance of mysticism in “root-seeking” novels. Finally, the paper tries todiscuss about the value and significance of the mysterious description in the“root-seeking” novels.
