One Hundred Years of Solitude, the well-known masterpiece of Garcia Marquez, was fist introduced into China at the unfolding of opening-up and reforms as the result of early efforts to translate modern foreign literature and had cast profound influence upon Chinese Roots-seeking literature. On the basis of locating and confirming the novel's post-modernist quality from a perspective of comparative literature, the author tried in this paper to analyze the similarities and discrepancies between One Hundred Years of Solitude and Roots-seeking literature, and arrived at a tentative conclusion that the conception of post-modernism in Chinese literature had its base in Roots-seeking literature. To make this analysis more complete some relevant topics were also covered in this paper, for example, in what concrete forms post-modernism manifested itself in Roots-seeking literature, what is the historical function of Roots-seeking literature in the course of Chinese literature development during the critical period when the ways of literary expression were shifting from tradition to modernism, and why One Hundred Years of Solitude earned such world-wide fame while Roots-seeking literature failed to do so though striking resemblance was discovered and careful investigation, etc.
