Emotion Integrity Impersonality And The Others The Study In Women’s Literary Writing Theory Of Virginia Woolf

Virginia Woolf is the British renowned writer of modernism and feminist critic. Her women’s literary writing theory is a milestone in the history of twentieth-century western literary theory. All sorts of literary conception of her can be seen in A Room of One’s Own and her essays. The dissertation mainly discusses her women’s literary writing theory from four chapters:"Emotion""Integrity""Impersonality""Women’s Sentences " and "Androgyny".Chapter one is "Emotion" and women’s writing."Emotion" not only contains the opposition to "Anger" but also the approval to the moderate feelings. Virginia Woolf advocates that women writers should treat their gender consciousness reasonably and fairly with a peaceful attitude, and express suitably their emotion. So she put forward the view of "Reason control Emotion". Chapter two is "Integrity" and women’s writing. Virginia Woolf thought "Integrity" embodies the view of "Reason control Emotion". In essence,"Integrity" is a conception which contains reason. So it can unify four branch points:"Truth","Human","Anonymous" as well as "dialectical Treatment of Tradition". Chapter three is "Impersonality" and women’s writing. Virginia Woolf requires that women writers retain personality but transcend it, who essentially requires the reasonable expression of emotion. Thus,"Impersonality" responds to "Emotion" and "Integrity". Chapter four is "Women’s sentences, Androgyny" and women’s writing."Women’s sentences" requires that women writers break away from male discourse and construct their own discourse. The discourse narration is the expression of emotion. So "Women’s sentences" responds "Emotion"."Androgyny" requires that women writers admit gender differences and treat them fairly. In the process of writing, make gender consciousness communicate, achieve the harmonious realm and finally create literature with great aesthetic value.Virginia Woolf’s literary writing theory looks so scattered and complex, but it’s a unity with organic relation, dynamic and multiple, not function mechanically, but relate and restrict each other, form a kind of dialectical creative thinking mechanism, and point to the highest literary artistry."Emotion" and "Women’s sentences" pursue the aesthetic nature of expressing feelings."Integrity" emphasizes "truth" and "human","Impersonality" emphasizes "Poetic spirit","Androgyny" weaken gender consciousness,which all embodies the essence of literary creation. It is that, through all kinds of techniques of expression, show writers’observation and sentiment to life, not reproduce but performance common humanity. In fact, Virginia Woolf’s literary writing theory can be regarded as a pure aesthetic conception. But we have to admit that,the theory have some uncertainty, so in practice, some limitations can be exposed. Such as "Androgyny". But the theory exactly shows Virginia Woolf’s noble dream about women’s writing. In addition, in the field of literary criticism, compared with the absolute and one sided dualism, Virginia Woolf’s theory provides a new and dynamic literary pluralism because of its uncertainty.
