Represented by Kizil Grottoes, Qiuci Grottoes Area is one of the most importantancient buddhism culture centres in Xingjiang. The people in Qiuci created exquisiteartistic style. As the important part of mural paintings in Qiuci, we can always find suchan image of the flying devata--they are flying in the air in a variety of beautiful posture,or bulk flowers to feed, or playing music and dance. The flying devata meanseverything in the sky performing the skills of heaven collectively. And the celestialpalace musician is a special form of flying devata, too. Just as the Buddhism itself takesthe best, all-encompassing, mural paintings of flying devata and celestial palacemusician in Qiuci are also a product of the combination of multicultural. Its connotationis not only related to the ancient Indian myth of the nature and the legend of heaven, butalso absorbed in the factors of India, Greece, Persian, and blended with Han style fromCentral Plain; of course, the local characteristics of Qiuci should not be ignored. Thecultural communication between ancient east and west can be proved by localcharacteristics of the flying devata.
